The Golden State Warriors are preparing to face off with the Toronto Raptors in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on May 30 and they’ll have to do it without their explosive superstar.

Scoring machine Kevin Durant suffered a calf strain in the third quarter of Game 5 of the semifinals and has not played since then. The Warriors have recovered quite nicely actually winning that game at home before finishing off the Rockets in Game 6 and then sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals.

Durant has hinted that this calf strain is worse than previous similar injuries and apparently it’s too much for him to even begin the Finals in Toronto.

Reports emerged on Tuesday morning that the NBA champion Warriors had already opted out of a visit to the White House, a decision the team is now denying ever happened.
2017 MVP Kevin Durant led the Warriors to their second title in three years on Monday night when Golden State took down LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120. According to several reports, the Warriors unanimously decided soon after their victory celebrations that they would not visit President Donald Trump at the White House to commemorate their championship win — but the team has since said they have made no such decision.
“Today is all about celebrating our championship,” the Warriors stated in responding to a Business Insider request for comment. “We have not received an invitation to the White House, but will make those decisions when and if necessary.”

Steve Kerr looks better than he has since he took a leave of absence during the Golden State Warriors’ first-round playoff series, and there’s a chance he will coach at some point against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Acting Warriors coach Mike Brown, speaking Wednesday to ESPN’s Michael Wilbon, said he didn’t know whether Kerr would return Thursday night for Game 1 and that the team wouldn’t know until closer to the 9 p.m. ET tipoff.
